Hello, I'm Ata Kahveci
I focus on crafting smooth, intuitive mobile apps, bringing a sharp design sense to every line of code and engineering challenge.
Hey! That's me! Learn about my recent experience, background story, development experience, international experience, or hobbies. I truly believe in the power of words to build relationships, so I'm glad you're here.
Combination of engineering and design.
Thanks to my study background, I combine design and development from an engineer's standpoint, providing accessible and beautiful experiences while keeping the architecture clean, scalable, and maintainable.
Currently, I'm building news app experiences at November Five with a great team for millions of readers. Previously, I developed photo editing apps at Superly Studios. Before that, I focused on freelance work.
I'm passionate about building and designing native experiences, creating unique, accessible, and visually appealing products. I actively follow and engage in the iOS development community to stay sharp and inspired.
November Five.
Sometimes the best opportunities require a leap of faith. This one took me all the way to Belgium, and it was a memorable one!
Two years ago, I made a decision that changed everything. While I had been building iOS apps for years in small teams, I realized I had hit a ceiling. I was good at what I did, but I wasn't growing the way I wanted to.
I wanted to work with people who would challenge me, people with different talents working on projects I couldn't tackle alone. November Five offered me that opportunity when I joined their core team on the Cue App, a news platform built for Mediahuis, powering 16 brands across Europe.
The past two years have been everything I hoped for and more. I became the person who knew every corner of the project, the reliable team player everyone could count on. True growth comes from stepping outside your comfort zone. Looking back, I can proudly say I helped build something that reached millions.
Pursuing my creativity.
As you can see, I put up colorful illustrations throughout this section. It wouldn't have been me if I hadn't included them!
Since my early childhood, I've always done something creative, whether it was a hobby or a project. I've always liked creating things, learning new things, and striving to be better than the day before.
My creative side and consistency led me to pursue hobbies that grew into decades-long experiences in photography, videography, and music. With years of experience in composition and understanding color, I know what makes a picture or scene feel and look beautiful to a casual viewer.
Today, I'm very grateful to be working on apps and bringing my creative elements to my work. I connect my multidisciplinary experiences with product development to create the best solutions, emphasizing functionality and directness over abstract components that hinder a seamless user experience.
7 years and counting.
With 7 years in information technology, my knowledge ranges from ML and CV to web, game, and mobile development.
I have 4+ years of professional experience as an iOS Engineer and 7 years of hands-on iOS development. Leveraging my background in information systems engineering, I'm able to build products that meet the highest quality standards.
Since I began programming in 2016, design has always been my passion. I pair my creative and intuitive design skills with my logical and analytical thinking to solve problems. In the past few years, I've designed and developed responsive websites and mobile apps, both in teams and as a freelancer.
Nowadays, I'm comfortable with the complete app development lifecycle. I can lead a team, share knowledge, and identify critical issues and their associated solutions. My most detailed experience can be found on LinkedIn, and a more focused version can be found in my resume.
4 country, 5 languages.
I lived my whole life adapting, learning new languages, and experiencing new cultures. I'm excited about my next journey!
Despite a rocky start in life, I'm still following my lifelong goals and dreams. Throughout my life, my international experience has been an integral part of my journey and has shaped me into the person I am today.
I was born and raised in Central Asia, close to the Chinese border. I have been exposed to different cultures and languages, and each has given me invaluable insights into the world around me. Later, I moved to Istanbul for my bachelor's degree, studying engineering in a city where Europe meets Asia.
Today, I'm based in Antwerpen, Belgium, as an iOS engineer, embracing new challenges and opportunities. After completing an integration course, I began learning Dutch to connect both professionally and locally. English is my first language, and I speak four languages!
The joy of progression.
I find joy in the little things, like a beautiful sunset, music, nostalgia, and everything else that happens on a daily basis.
My desire to improve is one of the little things in life that brings me joy. Whether I'm playing a video game, picking up the guitar, snapping a photo, or filming a scene, I love seeing my progress as I go.
I've been doing photography for a long time, editing photos, and capturing moments that feel like paintings. I've also shot two short films with a strong interest in cinematography! For me, it's now all about capturing moments that convey a narrative for the audience to connect with.
Aside from cameras, I've been playing guitar since late 2012. I enjoy listening to rock music, and you can almost always find me listening to Arctic Monkeys! In my free time, I love exploring cities, cooking, and watching indie movies. If you have any movie suggestions, I'm all ears!
Send me an email if you want to learn more about me, have any questions, or even get tips on how to make a photoshoot!
Let's collaborate!
Do you have an exciting project that needs help? I'd love to talk to you about design or development. You can reach me by email or LinkedIn.
